Dry-Mesic Oak Forests Ecological System

In Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, the Dry-Mesic Oak Forests Ecological System is widespread on slopes with soil that is dry-mesic, which means in-between dry and moist. The soil in these communities varies in fertility, with the Dry-Mesic Chestnut Oak - Northern Red Oak Forest being the least fertile among the three communities. All of them contain oak and hickory trees.
