Website Accessibility

The Explore Natural Communities website team strives to make your experience with the site the best one possible. We have made accessibility a top priority and have built the website to be intuitive and as usable as possible to everyone, especially those with disabilities related to sight, hearing, and dexterity.

The site uses alternative text for any images that are integral to the context on a webpage. Screen readers will be able to give the visitor image-related context even if the user cannot see any images on the site. Any images that are used as links will also have a text-based alternative with which to link to the appropriate content.

Font colors and background colors have been chosen to provide an appropriate amount of contrast, allowing users to easily read any links or text within the site. No jarring colors or page animations will impair your ability to navigate, read, or enjoy.

All text on the site is sized in a relative manner. If you are sight impaired and have your browser set to enlarged font sizes the site will respond accordingly. All text and headers will display the way you want them to display.

Podcasts and videos have either closed captioning or text transcripts so you can get the full context even if you're not able to take advantage of the audio.

We have taken a “Content First” approach with the website and have used various strategies to make the site content easy to navigate, easy to read, and easy to understand. The site uses “skip to main content” links, allowing users with screen readers to easily skip repetitive text, such as headers and menus, and easily get to the content they want to access. Special attention has been paid to creating and displaying content in a hierarchal manner, using headings and subheadings to make the content easy to read and understand. Content, including fillable forms, is easily navigated using keyboard tabbing and shortcuts.
