Where to See It

The Sweet Birch - Chestnut Oak Talus Woodland is fairly rare in Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, and no good examples are accessible by public trail. It’s found on steep slopes at higher elevations and also on less steep “benches” (narrow terraces at the base of steep slopes) above the Potomac River.

Map tip: To better see where this occurs, go to the interactive map of Harpers Ferry NHP and search for "oak talus."
