Antietam’s 3,250 acres of farmland, pastures, forests, and streams provide habitat for a variety of plants and animals. Located in the Ridge and Valley Province, most of the park is underlain by limestone bedrock. In the forests, look for chinquapin oak and bitternut hickory, two species that flourish in the rich soils form atop limestone.
